Raising a daughter and working full time, Beverly thought she would never have time to learn how to dance. Determined to fit it into her life, she enrolled in classes at the locally famous Cavana Ballroom. The owner, Chez Cavana operated two ballrooms, one on the west side of Cleveland and another in Rocky River. Beverly loved dancing. Her determination and enthusiasm helped her to build her talent quickly. Soon she too became an instructor. Chez fell in love with Beverly and they became partners in marriage and in the dance school.

As a team, they managed and instructed classes at both studios, and often held dances at the larger studio in Cleveland, on Pearl Road. Their instruction extended into the community and school programs. The Cavana’s enjoyed running an after-school program in the suburban school districts of Lakewood, Rocky River, Fairview Park, and Westlake. At its height, their programs reached more than 400 6th, 7th, and 8th graders each week.

It’s the new millennium and more and more adults are having fun with ballroom dance. Dances like the Foxtrot, Cha-cha, Waltz, Rumba, and Swing can be enjoyed with many modern tunes as well as the more nostalgic music. You may have noticed dances popping up around town. These events may feature one type of dance such as swing or tango, or may play music for a variety of ballroom dances.

Ballroom dance provides a wonderful alternative to the typical date night options and its a fun and respectful way to enjoy the company and camaraderie of another, whether acquaintance, friend, or close partner.
